It took less than two weeks for Governor Spanberger and the people really running Virginia – House Speaker Don Scott and foul-mouthed Senate President Pro Tempore Louise Lucas – to lay bare the Democratic Party’s real priorities—and none of them are about “affordability”.
Virginia Democrats have proposed over 50 new taxes since the start of the General Assembly session and now, with their redistricting proposal, they are orchestrating an outrageous and illegal power grab.
Below is the new Congressional District map proposed by the Democrats in Richmond last Thursday and signed by Governor Spanberger last Friday. Virginia is made up of 11 Congressional Districts and currently there are 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans in the House of Representatives.
This new map is intended to give Democrats 10 seats and leave Republicans with 1 seat.
Democracy doesn’t die in darkness, but it does die with the stroke of Abigail Spanberger’s pen.
Under this plan, Fairfax County would be shared among five different Congressional districts (1, 7, 8, 10, and 11) and represented by five different Congressmen.
Virginia Democrats are wielding their power like a club, in an effort to destroy their opposition.
The battle against redistricting is now being fought on two fronts: in the courts and with a potential referendum. A lower court ruling has been appealed by the Democrats and passed directly to the Virginia Supreme Court.
If the Supreme Court allows the redistricting amendment to move forward, it will be on the ballot in a Special Election on April 21, and early voting will begin on March 6. The 11 Congressional District Committee plans to fight this effort tooth and nail. We need to purchase signs, use digital advertising, texting and, hopefully, mailers to inform voters. What we can do is based entirely on how much money we are able to raise quickly.
This is probably one of the most important issues we will be voting on this year and time is short. If the referendum passes in April, the rigged map will go into effect this year. It is imperative that we launch an aggressive campaign to fight this effort by Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats to rig Virginia’s Congressional map.
