VIRGINIA'S 11TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT REPUBLICANS

Local Victims Get Silence, Out-of-State Activists Get Vigils: Where Are Walkinshaw’s Priorities?

Congressman James Walkinshaw represents Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, which includes much of Fairfax County. Before winning his congressional seat in September 2025, Walkinshaw served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors representing Braddock District from 2020 to 2025. During that time, he supported Fairfax County’s “Trust Policy” that prevents local police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.

On January 24, 2026, Walkinshaw traveled to Minnesota to participate in events related to individuals shot by federal immigration enforcement officers during confrontations in Minneapolis. Just days later, he’s promoting a vigil in Reston to honor those same individuals.

But here’s what Walkinshaw won’t talk about: the Fairfax County residents who were murdered, assaulted, and terrorized by criminals who should have been deported but weren’t—thanks to the sanctuary policies he supported as a county supervisor.

In December 2025, a Reston man was brutally murdered in his own home by Marvin Morales-Ortez, an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador. Fairfax County had released Morales-Ortez just one day earlier, despite an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer request. In July 2024, Nicacio Hernandez Gonzalez was stabbed to death in Fairfax County by an illegal immigrant with 23 prior charges who had been released multiple times despite ICE detainers.

Multiple women in Fairfax County have been assaulted and strangled by illegal immigrants released by county officials. Children have been victimized by predators who were freed despite ICE detainer requests. According to a recent study, Fairfax County is the third-most prolific sanctuary jurisdiction in America, having declined over 1,100 ICE detainer requests in under two years.

When asked about these policies on January 24, 2026, Walkinshaw defended sanctuary policies, saying ICE should “get a judicial warrant” rather than expecting local cooperation. He claimed that 60% of those detained by ICE “have not been arrested or charged with any crime” and accused federal authorities of “rounding people up to scare them.”

Meanwhile, the families of local crime victims wonder: Where’s their vigil? Where’s their congressman’s compassion?

The answer reveals everything about Democrat priorities: out-of-state activists get attention, photo opportunities, and sympathy. Local crime victims whose cases expose the deadly consequences of sanctuary policies get silence.

Walkinshaw’s selective compassion isn’t just about politics—it’s about which victims fit the Democrat narrative and which ones don’t. Fairfax County residents murdered by criminals who should have been deported apparently don’t make the cut.
