James Walkinshaw’s Tax Record: Four Years, Four Tax Hikes

If you want to know what James Walkinshaw will do in Congress, just look at what he’s done to your wallet in Fairfax County.

Since Walkinshaw joined the Board of Supervisors in 2022, families have faced an endless parade of tax increases. Year after year, while you’ve struggled with inflation and rising costs, Walkinshaw has voted to take more of your hard-earned money.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Let’s be clear about what’s happened to your tax bill under Walkinshaw’s watch:

2022: His first year in office, property assessments jumped and families saw their tax bills climb – even as inflation was already eating into household budgets.

2023: Did Walkinshaw give families a break? No. Property assessments continued to soar, meaning even higher tax bills for homeowners who were just trying to get by.

2024: Then came the big one – a crushing 7% increase in real estate taxes. Walkinshaw voted to raise the tax rate from $1.13 to $1.17 per $100 of assessed value. For the average family, that meant hundreds of dollars more out of their pocket.

2025: Is Walkinshaw done? Not even close. He’s pushing another 1.5-cent increase in the real estate tax rate. But that’s not all – he also wants a brand new meals tax of up to 4%. Now he’s coming after the money you spend taking your family out to dinner.

The Biggest Tax Hike in a Decade

Add it all up, and the average Fairfax County homeowner is facing a 7.5% tax increase this year alone – the largest in ten years. That’s not just a number on paper. That’s real money that won’t go toward your mortgage, your kids’ activities, or saving for retirement.

In just four years, Walkinshaw has voted for at least three major tax increases, with property assessments piling on even more pain. While your family income barely keeps up with inflation, your tax bill has exploded.

It’s Not About Need – It’s About Greed

Here’s what makes this worse: Fairfax County isn’t broke. It’s one of the wealthiest counties in America. But for politicians like Walkinshaw, there’s never enough of your money to spend. Every year brings new “needs,” new programs, new ways to grow government.

Walkinshaw never asks the basic question every family has to ask: Can we afford this? He never looks for waste to cut or programs to eliminate. His only solution is always the same: raise taxes.

From Fairfax to Washington

Now Walkinshaw wants to take his tax-and-spend philosophy to Congress. Imagine what he’ll do with access to the federal treasury. If he’s willing to raise your taxes four times in four years at the county level, what will he do in Washington?

We already know the answer. Walkinshaw has pledged to protect every federal program, expand government spending, and fight any attempt to cut waste. That means higher federal taxes to go with your higher local taxes.

Stewart Whitson: A Different Approach

Stewart Whitson understands something Walkinshaw doesn’t: It’s your money, not the government’s. As a father of five, Stewart knows how families struggle to balance their budgets. He knows that every tax increase means less for your family’s needs.

Stewart has spent years at one of the nation’s top conservative think tanks fighting for policies that let you keep more of what you earn. He’s testified before Congress about cutting government waste and reducing the tax burden on families.

The difference is simple: Walkinshaw sees your paycheck as the government’s piggy bank. Stewart sees it as yours.

The Choice Is Yours

On September 9th, you have a chance to say “enough is enough.” You can choose more of the same – more tax increases, more government spending, more raids on your family budget. Or you can choose a conservative fighter who will work with President Trump to cut taxes, not raise them.

James Walkinshaw’s record is clear: Four years, four tax hikes, and no end in sight.

Stewart Whitson’s promise is simple: Keep more of your money in your pocket, where it belongs.

The tax bill you pay next year depends on the choice you make today. Choose wisely. Choose Stewart Whitson.
