Check out the great op-ed in Sunday’s Washington Times by Fairfax resident Jeff Leach (here; note the paywall). Jeff calls out Fairfax County Democratic leaders for their lack of transparency and information blackouts around matters of important public concern. From the Kyle McDaniel scandal, to the scandal of a male child sexual felon repeatedly entering female locker rooms in public facilities, to the obfuscation around illegal immigrants, Fairfax County Democrats actively hide critical information from the public.
Regarding the Kyle McDaniel embezzlement scandal, Leach writes that “Not one of them has, to date, provided responsive answers to my questions. Not one elected official in the county has, to my knowledge, called for any investigation or shown the least concern that taxpayer money may have been embezzled.”
In addition, Leach wrote about FCPS’s response to a concerned parent’s request for more information about the FCPS curriculum: “In one case, the school initially denied access to lesson materials on “White privilege” and released them only after the parent paid a fee of $280 (in the electronic age, mind you). In another case, a parent requested records related to a “drag queen lunch,” only to be stymied by a lengthy discussion in which she was told that obtaining them would cost at least $200 (but probably several thousand dollars). Fairfax County Public Schools then surreptitiously dissolved its Family Life Education Curriculum Advisory Committee to avoid public scrutiny of its highly controversial decisions.”
Like the national Democratic Party, Fairfax Democrats’ regard for transparency and concern for democracy is wholly situational. If it provides political advantage, Democrats are the champions of sunlight and democracy. When Fairfax Democrats’ power or ideological prerogatives are threatened, democracy suddenly requires darkness.
