Stop Raising Taxes!
We have a bloated county government that thinks nothing of funding the majority of a $4 BILLION School Board budget. Honestly, that amount of money blows my mind. Poor FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid and her happy band of Democrat School Board members recently determined they need another $180 MILLION in additional funding for 2026, just to make ends meet. (With declining enrollment, no less.) Does anyone doubt that the County Board will give FCPS what it’s asking for? Read more here: https://www.ffxnow.com/
Guess what else we have to look forward to in one month? On January 1, 2026, a 4% meals tax will go into effect that was approved by our Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. For the record, that 4% meals tax will be added to the current 6% state tax and will not only be on meals eaten in restaurants. It will apply to all prepared foods, like the rotisserie chickens or salads you buy at the grocery store. If you stop by a 7-11 for a quick hot dog or taco, get ready to pay an additional 4% meals tax. Let’s not forget about the 5 cent bag tax, also courtesy of the Fairfax County Supervisors.
So which taxes does the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors control? Real estate tax, car tax, meals tax, and the bag tax. Until the December 9 Special Election in Braddock, 8 out of 10 members of the Board of Supervisors are Democrats and 100% of the School Board are Democrats. When you pay the car tax in October; your real estate tax in July and December; and the 4% meals tax starting January 1st, remember who voted for every single tax increase in Fairfax County – ALL Democrats. If you want to change the Tax and Spend trajectory that chases long-time residents out of our county, look no further than our Board of Supervisors.
If you’re sick of high taxes, vote Republican. If you continue to vote for Democrats, stop complaining about the high taxes, because taxing, spending, and more taxing is what the Democrats on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors do best!
In a letter released yesterday, RPV Chairman Mark Peake announced that he would be stepping down from his position as RPV Chairman at the end of 2025. You can read his letter informing the State Central Committee of his plans here. He will remain chairman through the end of the year. Following his departure, per the Party Plan, RPV Vice Chair Kristi Way will serve as Acting Chair until the State Central Committee elects a new chairman sometime in early 2026. The new chairman will complete the term of Chairman Peake, who himself was completing the term of former chairman Rich Anderson, who resigned to take a position as an Assistant Secretary of the Air Force. The term will end at the 2028 Quadrennial Convention, at which Virginia Republicans will elect a new chairman for a four-year term.
In his letter, Peake noted that the next chairman will need to focus on fighting the redistricting referendum Democrats are planning for April 2026. On behalf of the 11th District, we thank Chairman Peake for his willingness to serve as chairman and take on the role late in the election cycle. The job of RPV chairman is challenging and requires a proven ability to represent the party to the media, donors, and activists married to a vision of what the party can and should be. We will continue to keep you posted on developments at RPV.
