Our Response to a Difficult Week

Even a week later, it’s still difficult to believe that a radicalized Leftist assassinated Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk one week ago. Charlie was doing what he did best, engaging in democratic debate in the finest tradition of the American republic. It is the most shocking political assassination since the 1960s.

It was excruciating to watch left-wing reporters and commentators try to explain why it wasn’t exactly what it was: the assassination of a conservative for the beliefs that he held and espoused proudly, fearlessly, and effectively. Perhaps no one has done more in recent times to bring the youth vote to the GOP than Charlie Kirk.

What happened last week were the wages of a decade of progressive Leftist demonization of Republicans as racists, Nazis, white supremacists, and existential threats to democracy. As Republicans warned for years, particularly after the 2017 congressional softball practice shooting, it was only a matter of time that some deranged lunatic would take to heart the hysterical, hyperbolic attacks by progressives on Republicans and take matters into their own hands. Hate does, in fact, have a home on the radical Left.

Don’t let the Left both-sides this. This was an assassination committed by a radical Leftist. The Left has a violence problem and it is so convinced of the moral righteousness of its politics that it cannot conceive it might be in the moral wrong on any topic. The Left simply is incapable of introspection. Hence the deflections, both-sides’ing, and whataboutism from desperate Leftist politicians, commentators, and activists eager to deflect blame, avoid accountability, and protect at all costs their self-conception as moral superiors.

For their part, Virginia Democrats expressed the most outrageous, undemocratic sentiments imaginable in the wake of the assassination. Dot Heffron, a Democratic Chesterfield County School Board member who proudly endorsed Abigail Spanberger and Ghazala Hashmi, posted on social media “Call me old fashioned, but I remember when we used to be okay with shooting Nazis”. She has announced her resignation effective December 31, 2025, but, frankly, she should resign immediately–she has no business in any position of responsibility for children. A Spanberger staffer, Jasmine Frye, wrote a social media post blaming the assassination on the words and thoughts of the victim. Spanberger, an abject coward, still has not commented on the post and to the best of our knowledge still employs Ms. Frye.

Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid issued a statement, which you can read here. She obliquely references an “attack” at Utah Valley University but carefully avoids saying the name “Charlie Kirk” or that this was a political assassination of a prominent conservative for his beliefs. She then goes on to subtly both-sides the problem of political violence. Nothing about FCPS ensuring that students and teachers will tolerate all political viewpoints. We all know that if the roles were reversed, we’d be hearing about intolerant voices of hate on the Right and free speech martyrs on the Left. Two years into the worst outbreak of antisemitism on the Left in decades, the wind-up dolls of the Democratic Party still can’t stop talking about Charlottesville.

We should be proud of the way conservatives responded to Charlie Kirk’s murder. With prayer. Candlelight vigils. Eulogies. There were no riots. No looting. No violent reprisals. No cities felt compelled to board up their downtowns for fear of destructive “fiery but mostly peaceful” riots. When the rubber meets the road, Americans know the threats of violence come from the Left, not the Right.

But a cold fury has descended on the Right, as it should. We here in Virginia have the opportunity to send a message to the radical Left that it cannot silence Charlie Kirk’s message or our beliefs. And that is why we are encouraging you to follow the lead of the Virginia College Republicans and VOTE EARLY FOR CHARLIE. Get a friend. Get ten friends. Get them to the polls early. Do it for Charlie. This is our chance to show that the conservative movement is unbowed and is fighting back in the right way, the way the Left fears most–at the ballot box.

Let’s make early voting not just something nice to do–let’s make it our mission to deluge the early vote.

Early voting starts this Friday, September 19.

Make the commitment: Vote Early for Charlie.

Early Voting for the November General Election Starts This Fri., Sept. 19

PLUS: Volunteers Needed for Early Voting Polling Places

Thanks to the Democrats, Virginia has 45 days of Early Voting. This Friday, September 19 is the first day of Early Voting for the critical November 4th General Election. Typically, the Democrats get a huge jumpstart on us with Early Voting and Absentee ballots. Why? Because most Republicans like voting on Election Day and Democrats have been pushing mail-in and Early Voting for years. As long as Democrats control both Houses of the General Assembly, we need to jump on the bandwagon by voting early in person or by absentee ballot. If we don’t, Republicans are in a deep hole when November 4 rolls around.

Three Early Voting locations open in Fairfax County on Friday. Check here for locations and times.

To apply for an absentee ballot or to register to vote, click here: https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation.

The key to the November 4th election is maintaining control of the Governor’s mansion by electing Winsome Sears; voting for John Reid for Lt. Governor; and re-electing Jason Miyares as Attorney General. Plus, it’s time to flip the House of Delegates.

Vote Early. Vote Republican.

* * *

Volunteers are needed to help staff Republican tables at our three 45-day voting locations. On the heels of the horrific murder of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte and the assassination of Charlie Kirk in Utah, maybe some Democrats have had enough of their party and at least want to talk to us. If you’re available to pass out sample ballots and answer questions about our Republican candidates, please email Rosie Oakley at chair@11cdgop.org, and she can send you links to sign up for a volunteer shift at the Fairfax Gov’t Center, the N. County Govt Center in Reston, or the Mt. Vernon Gov’t Center. If the Democrats win in November, Virginia loses!
