Cynical Democrats Keep Government Shut Down, But Cracks Are Appearing
Petulant Democrats have kept the federal government shut for nearly a month. Their weak attempts to pin it on Republicans have fallen flat. Cynical Democrats like Virginia’s own Mark Warner and Tim Kaine have repeatedly voted to keep the Government shut down until they can make the temporary COVID-era Obamacare subsidies permanent.
(Hey, wasn’t Obamacare supposed to make healthcare affordable? It was the Affordable Care Act! It was right there in the name! Why do we need more subsidies for it? But I digress.)
Senate Democrats are throwing a temper tantrum, which seems to be the Democratic Party’s business model these days.
Democrats like Warner and Kaine, when they were in the majority, called the filibuster a relic of Jim Crow. Now that they’re using it to try to extort more subsidies for their failed Obamacare boondoggle, it’s a vital tool to protect Americans’ healthcare and the very foundations of our democratic republic.
But cracks are forming among the Democrats. Yesterday the largest federal employees union, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), called on the Senate to pass the clean continuing resolution that Senate Democrats have refused to pass as leverage to get their precious Obamacare subsidies. The pressure is now on Senate Democrats to vote for the clean CR because the Republicans are. Democrats have backed themselves into a cul-de-sac with no obvious way out.
Abigail Spanberger fits right in with these spineless, rudderless Democrats. Where has she been? Why hasn’t she been calling for Senate Democrats to pass the clean CR so that the many constituents in Virginia who need the government to reopen, including federal employees and members of the armed forces, can go back to work and get paid? All anyone ever hears from Abby is Trump this, Trump that. If she had actual influence within her party, she’d be working to convince it to allow the government to reopen. But she doesn’t have any influence; she is an electoral cipher, a replacement-level Democrat who is terrified of bucking her party. From the government shutdown to boys in girls’ sports and spaces, she stands and salutes when the progressive bosses of the Democratic Party and the California billionaires funding them issue their orders.
Spanberger had a chance to show her constituents she could get things done for them. As far as anyone can tell, she didn’t even try.

Come out to cheer on the Fairfax Republicans at the 2025 Vienna Halloween Parade! And, if you’d like, march with the Fairfax GOP in the parade!
Several of our candidates will be marching and would love to have a big crowd join them. The parade starts at 7 PM, but line-up will be earlier. Deb Maddrell, the Hunter Mill District Chair, is in charge of our entry, so please reach out to her for more information and let her know if you plan to participate. If you are planning to join the parade, you should also recruit volunteers to carry your signs.
Where: View the parade on Maple Avenue between Branch Rd and Center St. S.
Come door knock with the Fairfax GOP this weekend, the last weekend of the campaign! Katie Gorka, Chair of the Fairfax GOP, will be kicking off the door knock this Saturday, November 1 in McLean. Come knock for our statewide ticket of Winsome Sears, John Reid, and Jason Miyares and delegate candidate Kristin Hoffman (HD-6).
Meet at 9:30am at the McLean Shopping Center, 1443 Chain Bridge Road, McLean 22101, behind Santini’s. Please RSVP to Valerie Wohlleben at vwohlleben@gmail.com. We can get you all set with the electronic walkbook if you haven’t walked yet this year.
Precincts to be knocked include Churchill, Chain Bridge, Westmoreland, Kirby, El Nido, Spring Hill and Shouse precincts. You can knock alone, or we can pair you up with someone.
POLLING SITE VOLUNTEERS. Volunteers are still needed to help staff Republican tables at the 16 early voting locations and on Election Day.
Volunteers are needed across Fairfax County to help staff Republican tents and tables next Tuesday, November 4. Could there be anything more depressing for Republican voters than to arrive at their polling location and find only the Democrats passing out sample ballots?
Fairfax County has 265 precincts, which are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 4. If there are two volunteers for every shift, which is ideal because we don’t want anyone working alone, that’s over 3,000 volunteers.
If you’d like to volunteer, PLEASE email 11th District Chair, Rosie Oakley, at Chair@11cdgop.org, and she can send you a greeter link for any precinct in Fairfax County. We need your help!
The Fairfax GOP is still aggressively chasing absentee ballots this year and we need your help to ensure every last absentee ballot requested by a Republican is voted and returned to the county. We’re asking volunteers to call identified Republicans who have requested and received absentee ballots but not yet returned them. You can do it from home — it’s that easy. If you would like to help chase absentee ballots, please reach out to Valerie Wohlleben, the Fairfax GOP phone banking coordinator, at vwohlleben@gmail.com.
Come and watch the Election Night returns come in, surrounded by friends and fellow patriots next Tuesday, November 4. Space is limited, so sign up today!
