I can’t remember the last time I agreed with the Washington Post Editorial Board, but they got it right yesterday when they wrote that decency is on the ballot in Virginia. Weeks ago, we learned that Democrat Jay Jones, who is running for Attorney General, had fantasized about putting two bullets to the head of former House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert and that he wished the Speaker’s children would die in their mother’s arms, among other truly nauseating thoughts. All because he thought that would make Republicans come around to his political point of view.
Rubbish. Taking responsibility doesn’t mean saying you’re sorry and moving on as if nothing happened. Taking responsibility means bowing out of the race and taking a long sabbatical from politics to purge the hate from his soul.
It’s pretty amazing how “tolerant” Democrats are when it involves one of their own.
During the only debate between Winsome Sears and Abigail Spanberger, Sears put it to Spanberger point blank and Downton Abby stared silently and refused even to look at Sears.
Yesterday, the Washington Post posted the following: “The most suspenseful race in Virginia on Tuesday is for Attorney General. Republican Jason Miyares is seeking reelection against former Democrat Delegate Jay Jones. The revelation of deranged text messages, in which he mused about violence against children, among other things, has cast doubt on Jones’s temperament to be the state’s chief law enforcement officer. If Jones rides Spanberger’s coattails to victory, it would be a sad reflection of a discomfiting willingness among voters to prioritize partisanship over human decency.”
Amen!
If you’re reading this, you aren’t voting for Jay Jones, but sadly, by the time the story surfaced, hundreds of thousands of Virginia voters had already cast their ballot. A perfect example of why 45 days of early voting is a bad idea. This wasn’t an October Surprise – it was an October Shocker.
It’s hard to imagine how anyone, but especially a parent, could vote for a man who wished the children of a political opponent dead. (Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a parent like Jay Jones thinking and saying such things.) Let’s hope the voters of Virginia have the good sense to re-elect Jason Miyares as Attorney General, a man of principle and courage. And let’s hope that Virginians reject Jones’s enablers, Spanberger and Ghazala Hashmi. The alternative would be a black eye for the state of Virginia.
There’s still places we need volunteers to help fill across Fairfax County to help staff Republican tents and tables today. If you’d like to volunteer, PLEASE email 11th District Chair, Rosie Oakley, at Chair@11cdgop.org, and we’ll try to connect you to a precinct in Fairfax County that needs help. Or contact the Fairfax GOP office at 703-766-4467 and they can help assign you. If you’re in the City of Fairfax, contact the City of Fairfax GOP committee at fairfaxcitygop@gmail.com.
